Who We Are

Tennessee SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) is a program funded by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is administered by the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability. SHIP was created in the early ‘90s to provide local assistance for beneficiaries with Medicare. Since the launch of Medicare Part D in 2006, the program has blossomed into a well-recognized service that is free, confidential and non-biased. SHIP does not sell insurance or endorse any company that sells Medicare products.

SMP: Empowering Seniors to Prevent Medicare & Medicaid Fraud, offers assistance in educating beneficiaries on identifying and preventing Medicare and Medicaid fraud, waste and abuse. Upper Cumberland Development District received the grant to administer the SMP program in 2001. The grant is funded in part by Administration on Aging. Prior to January 2006, the program name was Senior Medicare Patrol Project.

Both programs work hand in hand to assist all Tennesseans with their questions and concerns about Medicare issues. SHIP and SMP are nationally-recognized and funded. Call us to locate a SHIP/SMP contact near you.
